Myah Jensan Edmeade

Myah Jensan Edmeade (Rocky) passed over on the 14th June 2007 aged 3 years from Leeds.

He was diagnosed on the 15th May 2006 with AML Leukemia. He had six months of treatment and at the
end he had a bone marrow test that showed he still had minimal residual disease. Myahs consultant
told us that in his opinion there was nothing to worry about and that Myah would be fine. We decided
that we wanted a second opinion and was getting ready to speak to a consultant in Glasgow about the
situation. But we never made it to Glasgow because on the week we were meant to go Myahs Aml was
back at 25%. This was three weeks after we had been told we had nothing to worry about. He was then
back in hospital an looking at a bone marrow transplant. I am really grateful that Myah found a
match even though he didn’t have a transplant in the end because the chemo would not have a good
enough effect on his Aml. He then went on to be the first child in St James to have a drug called
cloflabine. This also did not have a very good effect on his Aml. He then became the first child to
have a drug called Dasatinib on a first phase trial at Manchester children’s Hospital Pendlebury.
This worked in holding Myahs Aml but unfortunately he was on shared care with Manchester and Leeds
and Leeds were not happy. In the end Manchester stopped the drug. I do not blame manchester for
stopping the drug as Leeds made it as hard as possible for myah to be on the drug.I would like to
thank Dr Eddy Estline for giving myah a chance when no one else would.Myah then became the first
child to be on palliative care on ward 10 at St James. He then had a low dose chemo that also helped
to keep his Aml at bay but started to have other complications as his disease progressed. In Myahs
last week it became harder and harder for him to breath and he became very tired.

On 14th June at half past six in the evening Myah sadly passed over.

Myah was and still is a fantastic little boy who touched the hearts of so many people young and old.
An despite his illness soldiered on and smiled all the way though. He got given the nick name Rocky
as all he would do day and night is sit with his boxing gloves and watch Rocky on DVD over and over
again. He taught everybody who had a chance to know him some thing new and gave them all something
to remember him by. He is an inspiration to everyone especially me. He had a heart of pure gold and
helped other children to find the strength to fight there illnesses and get up and play no matter
how ill they felt. One love to my little champ and love you always mummy an your buggie xxxxxxx
